First introduced in 1986, the coin features Adolph A. Weinman?s famous ?Walking Liberty? design that has been minted on US Silver Half-Dollars since 1916 on its obverse side. The coin?s reverse side features the US National Coat of Arms based on the original 1792 design by the former Chief Engraver of the US Mint Robert Scot and reimagined on the 2020 coin by artist John Mercanti.
Later this year the design of the coin's reverse side will change for the first time since their first release in 1986. However, due to COVID-related delays, the US Mint will not start producing coins with the new design until later this year, making these Silver Eagles some of the last ones to ever have the original design!
